06 February 2008 Click here for more pictures of the Nissan GT-R The wraps are off and the wait is over – the storming 473bhp Nissan GT-R has finally been unleashed. And to celebrate the return of the car nicknamed ‘Godzilla’ – and ahead of its UK launch next year – Nissan has released an official video detailing the sensational new Nissan GT-R. The video includes a test drive of the new Nissan GT-R, along with a short clip taken from the Fuji circuit in Japan last December where the hardcore GT-R GT500 Super GT test car was shown to the public for the very first time. Japan’s newest supercar slayer is the latest incarnation of the famous 1970’s Nissan Skyline GT-R and features a manic twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6 engine producing 473bhp and a massive 433lb/ft of pulling power. This means a 0-62mph of just 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 192mph – lining it up next to the Nissan GT-R’s closest rival – the hardcore Porsche 911 Turbo. And the new Nissan GT-R has already claimed a few scalps. It lapped the legendary Nürburgring racetrack in Germany in seven minutes and 38 seconds – making it the 14th quickest car around the track and two seconds quicker than the ultra-exclusive £830,000 Bugatti Veyron. But the Nissan GT-R’s price is even more astonishing – at an estimated UK price of £60,000, the GT-R is one of the cheapest supercars in the world. Not content with dominating the road-going supercar elite, Nissan’s motorsport division – NISMO – has developed a racing edition called the GT500, which will race in the upcoming Super GT Championship series in Japan. However, Nissan UK has played down rumours of a storming 550bhp ‘V-spec’ Nissan GT-R. Rumours are circulating the Japanese manufacturer is considering a lighter, faster, and more powerful version of the Nissan GT-R, to compete against the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3.
