The world’s hottest supercars, a live motoring extravaganza, three blokes from the telly…and one Stig – this is Top Gear Live.

As Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May prepare to take over London’s Earls Court next week for this year’s Top Gear Live MPH '08 show, Vijay Pattni previews the upcoming spectacle…

Speaking exclusively to Auto Trader, Richard Hammond – pint-sized star of BBC 2’s Top Gear – revealed this year’s MPH Performance and Prestige show will include a 30ft high robot named ‘Swampy’…

“I can’t wait to start Top Gear Live – it’s hugely good fun to do”, Richard said.

“We really are going berserk with the set to turn it into Top Gear Live. It’s going to be a lot more technically advanced than in the past.

“‘Swampy’ will have motorcycles coming out of him – it will be some spectacle, there’s absolutely no doubt about that”, Richard assures.

Top Gear Live + supercars = ‘Ruddy Good Show’

Top Gear Live and the MPH show will debut £37 million worth of the world’s most sought-after supercars – including the ultra rare, 1,018bhp Koenigsegg CCX-R Edition (pictured right) which sports a carbon-fibre body – and is the fastest European production car ever.

The Koenigsegg CCX-R Edition houses a 4.8-litre V8 engine and will crack the 0-62mph in just 2.9 seconds and hit a top speed of over 254mph – making it quicker than the Bugatti Veyron.

This year’s Top Gear Live MPH show will also be a UK first for the 7.3-litre V12 engined Pagani Zonda F Carbon – which produces a healthy 650bhp.

The Zonda – which features a Mercedes-Benz engine – can accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.6 seconds and hits a top speed of 214mph, with a price tag of a cool £668,000.

Lamborghini, Lotus – and The Stig

But while these two super-rare supercars battle it out, there are hundreds of dream machines on display at Earls Court, including Bond’s company car – the Aston Martin DBS.

The Ferrari California’s big brother – the F430 Scuderia – will make an appearance, and the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, which took its place alongside the sensational Lamborghini Estoque four-door saloon at this year’s 2008 Paris Motor Show, will also be there.

Top Gear goes LIVE!

And in the main arena, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May will be causing havoc, taking the TV Top Gear format to a live audience, including a 30ft-high robot with motorcycle stunts, a chance for the audience to lap the Top Gear test track – and the inimitable chat of Clarkson and co.
