Auto Trader's ten most expensive cars
|
11 April 2008 Andy Goodwin takes a look at the most expensive cars available right now on Auto Trader. Ferrari Enzo With a price tag of £899,999 this Ferrari Enzo sits in a golden throne at the top of the 396,700 cars available to buy on this site. And the most expensive car is also one of the fastest – with a huge 651bhp the Ferrari Enzo roars from 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds and has a top speed of more than 220mph. With just 800 miles on the clock since it was built in 2005, this black Ferrari Enzo is one of only 400 built. Each Phantom Drophead coupe takes 450 man hours to build, and features a 6.7-litre V12 engine producing 453bhp. Its rear deck is made from teak, the same wood used on luxury yachts and to craft some of the world’s finest furniture. Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren The Mercedes SLR is designed and built by McLaren in Woking, Surrey meaning two of the three most expensive cars on Auto Trader have British brains behind them. For £369,995 you’ll get a hand-built 5.4-litre engine which can push the long silver bonnet of the Mercedes SLR to 224mph. The brakes are among the most powerful ever fitted to a road car, and a rear air brake flips up into the airflow to slow the car down like a parachute. Koenigsegg CCR The only supercar to come out of Sweden is the tricky-to-spell Koenigsegg, and we’ve got a Koenigsegg CCR for sale for £350,000. This bright orange Koenigsegg CCR has a 4.7-litre engine producing around 800bhp. The Koenigsegg CCR is one of the world’s fastest cars with a top speed of more than 240mph. Porsche Carrera GT Four of the five most expensive cars for sale with Auto Trader.co.uk can top 200mph, including the Porsche Carrera GT, and three can better 220mph. The Porsche Carrera GT is the fastest and most expensive Porsche ever built, and this example with only 40 miles under its wheels will set you back £299,995. Its 600bhp engine was designed from scratch and uses technology developed for Le Mans racing cars. Bugatti EB110 Super Sport The Bugatti EB110 Super Sport was unveiled in 1992, and this car which is £264,995 has only been driven 8,200 miles. It is also the only right hand drive Bugatti EB110 Super Sport. Power is fed through all four wheels by a V12 engine with four turbochargers, capable of 600bhp. A top speed of 216mph was possible, making it the choice of car for one Michael Schumacher, who bought a yellow EB110 in 1994. Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano For £249,950 you can drive away this Ferrari 599 GTB, finished in stunning Nero Daytona black paint. The engine is taken from the Ferrari Enzo and produces 620bhp, and the Ferrari 599 GTB features a new type of suspension which adjusts extremely quickly to the inputs of the driver. And while Michael Schumacher owned a Bugatti EB110, he actually helped design the way the Ferrari 599 GTB feels to drive. Ferrari F40 The 478bhp Ferrari F40 became the world’s fastest car when it went on sale in 1987, and it still has the ability to make petrolheads dribble. This Ferrari F40 dream machine has a low mileage and can be yours for £235,000. It has a body made from Kevlar (the material used in bullet proof vests), and a turbocharged 2.9-litre V8 478bhp to accelerate it from 0-60mph in just 3.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 201mph. Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 For a fiver less than the iconic Ferrari F40 you could buy this Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 with E Gear paddle-shift transmission. Behind the cabin lies a monstrous 6.5-litre V12 with 640bhp sending its thrust to all four wheels. The Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 has true supercar looks, with its wedge-shaped profile and ‘scissor’ doors which swing upwards. Ferrari 612 Scaglietti The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is the largest car currently offered by Ferrari, and it is a true four-seater designed for travelling long distances with speed and style. Despite its larger size it still accelerates from 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds and has an incredible 199mph top speed thanks to its 533bhp V12 engine. With only 500 miles covered since new, our 2007 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti with sumptuous leather interior is £233,995. |
