Welcome to Auto Trader’s Car Videos of the Week.

Each week we upload tons of great car videos. This week we’re looking at Volkswagen’s hottest cars.

Our man Stuart Milne has been in Portugal this week driving one of the most exciting cars of the year, the Volkswagen Scirocco.

Re-launched after 16 years in the wilderness, the 2008 Volkswagen Scirocco has a sleek, provocative-looking coupe-hatch design and shares a host of components – including a 2-litre turbocharged, 197bhp engine – with hot hatch favourite, the Volkswagen Golf GTi.

And interestingly two of the Scirocco’s biggest rivals will come from the Volkswagen Audi Group – the Volkswagen Golf GTi and Audi TT.

To celebrate driving the new Scirocco, we’ve rounded up footage of Volkswagen’s hottest cars.

Volkswagen W12 Nardo

It was a concept which never saw production, but the Volkswagen W12 Nardo is the most incredible machine ever-built by VW, and the car least likely to follow the ‘People’s car’ mission statement.

With 600bhp and weighing just 1,200kg, the W12 Coupe accelerated from 0-62mph (100kph) in 3.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 217mph.

Volkswagen took the W12 to the legendary Nardo high-speed bowl in November 2002, where they lapped the eight mile ring non-stop for 24 hours, racking up a world record 4,804 miles at an average speed of 200.2mph.

Volkswagen Golf GTi W12 650

While the Nardo is Volkswagen’s fastest ever concept, the Golf GTi W12 650 is the craziest.

At the 2007 Wörthersee Volkswagen car show in Germany, VW had nothing to show off – so they needed to act quickly.

They took a 6-litre W12 engine out of a Bentley Continental, twin-turbocharged it and rear-mounted it into a Golf GTi.

Then they picked up other parts from Audi and Lamborghini to create a 202mph monster.

Volkswagen Passat R36

The Volkswagen Passat R36 is the German car maker’s fastest accelerating production car ever, rocketing from 0-62mph (100kph) in 5.6 seconds thanks to a 3.6-litre V6 engine.

It’s on sale at the moment and costs from £30,990.

But for £32,150 you can have it in estate guise meaning one weekend you can be lapping the Nürbürgring and then the following Saturday you can visit Ikea comfortably knowing there’s room in the back for a bedroom of furniture.

Volkswagen Golf GTi

You can’t have a VW round-up without the Golf GTi. Ignore the W12 650, that’s a beautifully engineered cut-and-shut, but it’s not really a Golf GTi.

Launched in 1977, the Volkswagen Golf GTi is the benchmark car for manufacturers to compare their respective hot hatches against.

This advert shows the first four GTis in a cleverly shot video.

Volkswagen Scirocco

On sale in September, we’re confident Volkswagen has a problem – they won’t be able to build the new Scirocco quick enough.

It’s a stunning looking car with hot hatch performance. And at £22,000, it looks like being a well-priced coupe-hatch.

Initially, the Volkswagen Scirocco will only be available with the Golf GTi’s 197bhp engine, but expect to see a frugal diesel model and crazy four-wheel drive ‘R’ model to appear at a later date.
