Want to save money on road tax? Drive a car which emits between 101 and 120g/km of CO2 and you’ll pay £35 per year.

We list every car in tax band B and reveal six of the best.

From April 1 motorists face a £5 increase in car tax for vehicles which emit more than 140g/km of CO2.

If you buy a car in new tax bands B or C, emitting between 101 and 120g/km of CO2, you’ll pay £35 in tax – less than £3 per month.

Mini Cooper D
Price:
£14,685 – £16,680

The Mini Cooper is cute, fun to drive and thanks to the 1.6-litre diesel engine, more eco-friendly than ever before.

It emits 104g/km of CO2 and has an average fuel consumption figure of 72.4mpg, as well as retaining most of its value due to popular demand.

Renault Megane
Price:
£13,174 – £17,223

For a comfortable and safe family hatchback with low tax costs, buyers could do worse than the Renault Megane.

Unique styling, CO2 emissions of 120g/km and a combined fuel economy of 62.5mpg makes the 1.5-litre DCi Megane a decent green hatchback, with 18 model trims available.

BMW 1 Series
Price:
£18,130 – £22,180

As one of the fastest and sexiest-looking cars to fall into tax band B, the BMW 118d is also one of the most expensive.

Buyers can select from one of three 2-litre diesel engines, which produce 141bhp, 175bhp, and 202bhp respectively. The small Beemer emits 119g/km of CO2 and can reach an average 62.8mpg.

Fiat Qubo
Price:
£10,950 – £12,350

As one of two mini-MPVs in band B – the other being the similar Peugeot Partner Tepee – Fiat’s Qubo is affordable and freshly designed.

The 1.3-litre diesel boasts 140lb/ft of pulling power and low insurance costs due to falling into group two. The rear seats can be removed, making it perfect for carrying large loads while retaining an average 62.8mpg.

Hyundai i20
Price:
£10,145 – £12,095

The Hyundai i20 supermini has replaced the Getz model in Hyundai's line-up, and is making its way into Hyundai dealerships across the UK.

The new i20 1.4D 74 emits 116g/km of CO2 and reaches an average 64.2mpg.

Vauxhall Corsa
Price:
£10,254 – £13,085

The Vauxhall Corsa is one of Britain’s most popular superminis – and the 1.3-litre diesel ecoFLEX is the greenest Corsa available.

There are 18 model trims which include the diesel engine, emit 119g/km of CO2 and reach an average 62.8mpg.
