Money-saving tip: Turn off air-conditioning

Money-saving tip: Turn off air-conditioning - Feature Image
Switch off your air-conditioning and save almost £100 a year

04 August 2008

Turn off your air-conditioning and save at least £2 per week on fuel.

Here’s some other ways to block out the heat – saving you up to £94.64 per year on fuel.

Air conditioning uses up to 10 per cent more fuel than usual.

Switching it off may seem like an easy way to save money on fuel, but how else can you keep your car cool?

Cool alternatives

• Open the sunroof
• Open your car’s windows (be aware this may make your car less aerodynamic, which could burn more fuel than usual)
• Switch on your air vents
• Buy an Auto Cooler – this solar-powered ventilator automatically cools your car down – it’s available from Auto Trader’s Parts and Accessories page
• Park in the shade where possible
• Use window shades when parked

Make sure you switch on your air-conditioning at least once a week to avoid costly repairs – leaving air-con unused allows bacteria to breed.
