Audi is a byword for understated cool

17 December 2007

The Spooks season finale is tonight!

As Rupert Penry-Jones (Adam Carter), Peter Firth (Harry Pearce) and the gang prepare for one final onslaught, Vijay Pattni takes a look back at the super saloons which have starred alongside MI5’s finest through the series.

On the hunt for international terrorists, Section D is faced with near-death on a daily basis – and this time the action has been seriously ramped up.

The first episode of series six started as it meant to go on – with an explosion, and a missing MI5 officer…

And throughout the series, Adam and co have driven the ultimate undercover cars while evading capture and hunting down the enemy.

So which car manufacturers do Britain’s hardest spies favour?

Lexus

The MI-5 team love to motor around in super-cool Lexus’ – including the IS model – and with good on-road dynamics and bomb-proof build quality, the Toyota-owned carmaker has proven a hit with the spies.

Saab

This GM-owned manufacturer has produced some good machinery – including the Saab 9-3.

And it might be based on the outgoing Vauxhall Vectra, the ride is compliant, purposeful and refined – quick enough for the quick-witted Section D.

Audi

A byword for understated cool, Audis, especially the A8, are synonymous with excellent dynamics, superior build quality and – most importantly for the team – the epitome of discretion.

Mercedes

The S-Class Mercedes is one of the ultimate luxury saloons, offering refinement, performance and bags of understated cool.

Volvo

It might seem like a strange addition to the usual line-up of subtle super-saloons, but the humble Volvo V70 is the perfect Spooks vehicle.

It has solid build quality, sharp handling, decent performance, and the last word in discretion. And above all, who would expect to look for spies in a Volvo?
