It’s the start of another thrilling football season.

Many of the game’s biggest stars have had cars for sale on Auto Trader. Adrian Hearn picks the ultimate dream team.

Wayne Rooney

Rooney was on the back pages of every paper this morning after breaking his foot for the third time against Reading in Man United’s opener.

His Mini GP is one of the most unique motors on the road. Number one of 444, the 2006 motor has a supercharged 1.6-litre engine producing 218bhp and 185lb/ft of pulling power. To reduce weight, the rear seats were moved making it one of the fastest hot hatches available. Accelerating from 0-60 mph in less than 6.5 seconds, the Mini has a top speed of 150mph.

Steven Gerrard

Liverpool’s talismanic midfielder - who scored a corking winner against Aston Villa on Saturday – was the first owner of a diesel BMW X5 which he had a range of extras fitted. He owned it for a short time before passing it on to former team mate Stephen Warnock.

Ryan Giggs

Wales’ most famous player and Manchester United hero Giggs bought a Range Rover HSE Autobiography in 1999. Appearing on Auto Trader in July this year, the British brute uses an air suspension which allows automatic adjustment of the suspension’s height for when taken off-road.

David Beckham

The former England captain – now earning megabucks in Los Angeles – has had two unusual American cars on Auto Trader.

He owned a 2003 GMC Yukon Denali for 15 months and customised it with chrome wheels and blue Italian leather seats.

His second car was a Ford F150 Harley Davidson Edition and is one of the world’s most powerful pick-ups. Using a 5.4-litre V8, the American motor produces 340bhp and 425lb/ft of pulling power and has a camera to aid reversing.

Paul Gascoigne

Rounding off this awesome midfield is one of the game’s best-know stars. Gazza was the first owner of a 2001 BMW 320Ci, which was fitted with a full Breyton bodykit and 18-inch Breyton alloy wheels. The convertible’s 2.2-litre engine produces 170bhp and 155lb/ft of pulling power and has a top speed of 140mph.

Michael Owen

The England and Newcastle United striker has had a torrid 12 months after getting injured in the World Cup. His Jaguar XKR 460 Typhoon was a seriously quick motor. More than £25,000 was spent modifying the British coupe, increasing power to a titanic 460bhp and improving handling with a sportier suspension.

Roy Keane

At the heart of every team is a motivational leviathan and they don’t come much more intimidating than Sunderland gaffer Keane.

The former midfielder was the first owner of a ridiculously powerful Audi RS6 Avant. With a 4.2-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 600bhp, the German estate rockets from 0-60mph in Ferrari-rivalling 4.4 seconds.

David James

Portsmouth and England star James is a Premier League record breaker boasting 142 clean sheets. He’s also an active environmentalist and recently had his Chrysler 300C converted to run on biodiesel.

James was the first owner of this supercharged Jaguar XJR, which appeared on the site in June. The 4-litre saloon accelerates from 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds and has a limited top speed of 155mph.

Gary Neville

Manchester United skipper Neville was the first owner of a lightning-quick Bentley Continental GT. The 2.4-ton luxury motor is powered by a gargantuan 6-litre W12 which produces a colossal 552bhp and 479lb/ft of pulling power. This launches the British monster from 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 198mph – all for £77,995.

Rio Ferdinand

We’ve had two motors owned by the England and Manchester United centre back.

His 2003 BMW X5 had a 3-litre diesel engine producing 218bhp and 359lb/ft of pulling power. The German SUV was also fitted with sat-nav, a tracker, privacy glass and two TVs for passengers in the back.

His second car – a Jaguar XK8 – accelerates from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and has a limited top speed of 155mph.

Wes Brown

Another Man United and England defender, Brown was the first owner of a BMW X5 with a 4.4-litre V8 engine. This massive lump launches the Bavarian off-roader from 0-60mph in 7.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 137mph. Brown’s Beemer – which manages a combined 20.3mpg – was fitted with sat-nav, climate control and a top-end sound system.

Tony Adams

Arsenal legend Adams, who is now on the coaching staff at Portsmouth was the first owner of this Range Rover Vogue. His 305bhp 4x4, which rolled on whopping 22-inch alloy wheels, had sat-nav, two DVD players – and was snapped up instantly.
