19 January 2007 The latest instalment of the hugely popular GTA series. The game is set in 1984, and is the prequel to GTA Vice City. It retains the best aspects of the series, allowing you to control a variety of vehicles including cars, planes, helicopters and bikes in a series of missions. Does it look the part? The game looks fantastic, featuring some of the best graphics you’ll see on a handheld. There are some graphical problems, such as vehicles suddenly popping up on the screen, and the frame rate dropping occasionally, but it’s never enough to make the game unplayable. Realistic simulation or arcade fun? The GTA franchise has always been heavy on the weaponry, and this port doesn’t disappoint. With everything from baseball bats to rocket launchers and flamethrowers, it’s a pity you can only carry one weapon of each type at a time. How does it play? One of the best aspects of the console versions of GTA is the way each vehicle handles differently - and the cars, bikes and buggies in Vice City Stories are no different. And for the PSP, the loading times aren’t too bad. How much gaming will you get out of it? Unlike Liberty City Stories for the PSP, Vice City Stories feels like a full game, rather than an expansion pack. And the soundtrack is great. City break or your only vice? 8/10. A Grand Theft Auto rocket in your pocket. Author – Rockstar Leeds and Rockstar North Auto Games Auto Games Retro: Grand Theft Auto 2 |
