Moto Guzzi Nevada Classic 750
|
25 October 2007 | |
If you want your first big bike to have the laid-back cruiser look, check out the 750cc Nevada Classic. This V-twin is easy to ride thanks to a softly tuned engine and a saddle height of just 767mm to inspire confidence in new riders who can plant both feet firmly on the ground when they come to a stop. The 744cc Nevada features Guzzi’s familiar Breva derived 90-degree transverse V-twin motor and shaft drive. But while the Breva’s naked style is clearly aimed at the Ducati Monster and BMW Rockster market, the Nevada is designed to remind you of the classic Guzzi California. Weighing in at 184kg dry, the Nevada is a massive 54kg lighter than BMW’s R850R. But it needs to shed the pounds if it is going to have any chance of keeping up with the opposition – the Nevada delivers just 48bhp at 6600rpm while the Beemer has a claimed 70 horses. But while 48bhp isn’t much for a 750, the V-twin pulls hard from 2000rpm and if you use the five-speed box to keep the motor buzzing above 5000 it gets a move on. While the Breva was the first of the small Guzzis to be fitted with electronic fuel injection, the Nevada still used a pair of Dell'Orto carburettors until the 2007 model year. The narrow 18in front wheel and 3.50 x 16in rear add to the classic cruiser look. Front fork is a 40mm Marzocchi with 130mm of travel. Rear suspension is classic (read basic) twin shock. The disc brakes (just one up 320mm disc up front) are linked – a Guzzi trademark for decades.
