Review: Moto Morini Veloce

The stunning Moto Morini Veloce is the sport version of the 140bhp Corsaro 1200 and with a nametag like Veloce (Italian for high-speed) there is little doubt what this bike is all about. Like the Corsaro, the Veloce has the 1187cc 140bhp Bialbero CorsaCorta 87-degree V-twin engine at its heart, delivering a maximum torque of 91 lb ft at 6,500 rpm. However, Morini have packed the Veloce with top quality performance parts for a modest price increase on the standard Corsaro. Up front are impressive Marzocchi Magnum forks with 50mm diameter legs and the option for precise setting of compression and rebound to suit the rider’s taste. At the rear is an asymmetric swingarm and a Sachs fully adjustable shock absorber, with its strut diameter increased by 16mm and an internal counter-spring for improved ride. Twin Gold Series Brembo 320mm discs with four-pison calipers give powerful and progressive braking. The high quality ergal solid block alloy foot rests are set farther back and the gearshift has a shortened action for a sportier feel. The exhaust system has two slender, lightweight Termignoni stainless steel silencers that shout out pure racing style and produce a powerful roar while complying with stringent Euro 3 emission standards. For owners seeking trackday fun, the Veloce is supplied with a second ECU unit with race mapping for use with a track exhaust system, which promises a definite upgrade in performance.
